The primary focus of multisensory instruction in reading is to enhance learning by engaging multiple senses. This approach utilizes visual, auditory, and kinesthetic-tactile modalities to help reinforce the connection between letter sounds and letter recognition, as well as support comprehension and retention of information. By involving more than one sense, multisensory instruction caters to various learning styles and increases the likelihood of understanding complex concepts, making it particularly effective for students with learning differences or those who benefit from varied instructional strategies.

This methodology fosters a deeper engagement with the material, as students can see, hear, and physically interact with the components of reading. Such a comprehensive approach helps create a more enriching learning environment, leading to better outcomes in reading proficiency. In contrast, focusing solely on visual, auditory, or minimizing sensory engagement does not capitalize on the benefits of multimodal learning.
